About Us

Victoria Jackson, Author/Editor

Victoria is from Elko, Nevada and an enrolled member of the Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribes of Nevada and Oregon.  She has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Great Basin College.

Victoria began the Shoshone and Paiute language projects in the Summer of 2018.  She writes all of the English books, works with the translation of the languages and edits all of the videos.

Shakea Jim, Illustrator

Shakea resides in Elko, Nevada and is an enrolled member of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone - Elko Band.  She is a mother of two boys who are currently learning their Shoshone language.

Shakea attended the Shoshone Youth Language Program at the University of Utah and continues to learn the Shoshone Language.

Shakea continues to contribute to the language "All in hope that our language and culture will stay alive for many generations to come."

Alfred Jackson, Shoshone Language Speaker

Alfred is a fluent Shoshone language speaker and an enrolled member of the Te-Moak Tribes of Western Shoshone - Elko Band.  He currently resides in Elko, Nevada.

As a retired equipment operator, Alfred enjoys teaching the Shoshone language to the youth in the community.

Alfred is enjoying retirement as he continues to ride his colts and helps create these programs with his daughter, Victoria, and wife, Brenda.

Rick Crutcher, Paiute Language Speaker

Rick is a fluent Paiute language speaker and an enrolled member of the Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribes of Nevada and Oregon.

Rick grew up in Fort McDermitt, received his education at Stewart Indian School in Carson City, Nevada, joined the Marines and traveled after school.  He later joined the Nevada Army National Guard.

Rick continues to rope and ride and was an eager participant in the language projects.

Brenda Jackson, Project Consultant

Brenda is a Paiute and Shoshone language speaker and an enrolled member of the Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribes of Nevada and Oregon.

Brenda grew up on the Fort McDermitt Indian Reservation, then later moved to Elko, Nevada.  She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

She has been a vital component to these language projects.
